Control Center-Configure servers-SSL certificate

SSL is an industry-standard way of passing sensitive information between computers. It is often used for secure transfer of credit card numbers and other confidential information across the Internet. To run SSL on your virtual server you must first get a SSL Certificate which could be obtained from a certification server such as VeriSign or Thawte or any other certificate authority. A SSL Certificate can be presented electronically to prove your identity, or to validate your rights to access private information or services online.

You can get more information about various brands of SSL certificates at http://www.whichssl.com.

If you already have a SSL Certificate you should post it to the HOSTEX system. To do this - fill the needed forms (of SSL Certificate and Key) and press "Post" button. To order a SSL Certificate you should fill the SSL Certificate request form at HOSTEX Virtual Server Control Center. Your SSL Certificate Request form will be generated in less than 10 minutes. You should take your SSL Certificate Request from SSL atributes form and send it to certification server, more info could be obtained at: http://www.thawte.com/certs/server/request.html. Inform Certification server that you are going to use mod_ssl secure server. When you post your SSL certificate to the system mark the "Certificate Key should be taken from last Request generation" checkbox.

Please note that you have to obtain secure certificate first before ordering the service at HOSTEX.

SSL service will be activated within 1-3 days after ordering. If you cancel the SSL service your SSL Certificates will remain valid and useful. Once your SSL Certificate is installed on your virtual server a SSL service will be started. Then you will be able to connect to your virtual server using the https protocol. In order to activate SSL, simply change the URL to read "https" instead of "http", e.g., https://www.yourdomain.com.
